Featured Bottle Cap - I have approached small breweries of beer and soda around the country to help them recycle their pre-consumer waste. Many of the bottle caps go unused because they fall on the floor, lucky me!
Steven's Point Brewing Company - Gourmet Sodas - One of many breweries to make premium sodas. The Steven's Point Brewery is steeped in a history that has transcended the trials of the Prohibition and the Great Depression. It is well known that Prohibition forced many Wisconsin breweries to close and, although a trying time, the Steven's Point Brewery remained in operation offering near-beer and gourmet sodas. Today the Steven's Point Brewery offers a delicious line of Gourmet Sodas reminiscent to the sodas produced during Prohibition. Each are well balanced and made with the finest ingredients.

Featured Artist - I get to travel around the country and meet a lot of people that create interesting artwork. I usually come home with a piece or two and each newsletter I would like to pass on some links to some of the people you might enjoy!
Paula Sparks - Paula has always been attracted to metal. Her first memory of this attraction was discovering some dimes in the glove box of her Aunt's Volkswagen beetle. The trees on the back of the dimes where shiny and mesmerizing. When she was seven, she remembers repairing her Avon ballerina necklace, the one with the moving legs. She took her first jewelry class in high school and the rest is history. After completing five years of jewelry and metal at the University of New Mexico, she graduated with a B.A. in Art Education. Now in her 10th year, She continue to make jewelry using techniques such as box construction, married metal, hinging and cloisonne enamel. Her materials include sterling silver and gold sheet metal, enamel and semiprecious stones. She designs all her jewelry with the intention to integrate color, space, texture, form and movement.

Craft Emergency Relief Fund - (CERF) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and sustaining the careers of craft artists across the United States. As small-business operators, craft artists do not always have the resources and protections to sustain themselves and their livelihoods in the aftermath of emergencies such as fire, theft, natural disaster, or illness. Too often they do not have access to information and opportunities that can help advance their careers. Since 1985, CERF has helped hundreds of craft artists from Maine to Hawaii recover from emergencies and get the support they need to succeed as artists. Last year's double blow of Katrina and Rita has presented a tremendous but not unfamiliar challenge to the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF). Now in its 20th year of providing relief to artists affected by calamity, CERF has become a clearinghouse for information and financial assistance for craft artists as well as a focal point of donations for the tightly knit craft community in the aftermath of the storms. |
