2008 Niche Awards - We have made it to being a "finalists" again for the the Recycled Bottle Cap Charm Bracelet (above) in the recycled category. The 2008 Niche Awards competition is sponsored by Niche magazine, the trade publication for retailers of American craft. It celebrates excellence and motivation in American craft. Out of more than 1,100 total entries this year, and it is truly an honor to be selected as one of four finalist in the recycled category. Winners are announced and honored in a special ceremony held during the February at the Buyers Market of American Craft.

Featured Bottle Cap - I have approached small breweries of beer and soda around the country to help them recycle their pre-consumer waste. Many of the bottle caps go unused because they fall on the floor, lucky me!

Featured Artist - Jodi Rae Designs - An artist and jeweler who has been making and selling her own handcrafted designs since the age of 8. Throughout her career her art has become not just a passion, but also her life's work.

Artist-Museum Partnership Act - As artists we are asked to donate to every cause you can think of... Under current law, artists who donate self-created works are only able to deduct the cost of supplies such as canvas, pen, paper and ink while collectors are able to deduct the fair market value of the work! A bill, S.548, the Artist-Museum Partnership Act of 2007 would allow artists, writers, and composers to take a tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the works they donate to museums and libraries. While this act does not allow artist to deduct donations to all nonprofit organizations, it is the first step. Please help artists who help others by contacting your congressman.
